Conceived in the mind of Major DP Singh and evolved with the support of Mr. Rajnish Kapur from JK Cement, Swachhability Run had a glorious start in its first edition in 2016. People of all age groups and from all walks of life put in their heart and soul and made it a grand success. Their hardwork bore fruit and the brainchild of Major DP Singh very remarkably and vibrantly spread the awareness about equality of and love for all creations of God, along with promoting the Government’s initiative for cleaner India.

Inclusion of divyangs as equals

The differently abled have been achieving feats and scaling new heights of success, proving to the world that they are in no way less able. Their optimism and willpower deserves to be acknowledged and appreciated. SwachhAbility Run salutes such bravehearts and aspires to spread the message of inclusion of divyangs as equals among the society.

Swachhta

With a view to build a clean and beautiful environment for our future generations, the Government took an initiative of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Deriving its inspiration from the same, SwachhAbility Run aims at creating awareness among the people and motivating them to keep surroundings and the city clean and pollution free.

Covering a long distance of 274 km through the run and reaching 2,57,524 facebook users, SwachhAbility Run urged the people to push their limits and to explore their abilities. It engaged the people of 7 cities in a noble cause while they rediscovered their own hidden potential. The run was a celebration of the abilities of the differently abled and a live model of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. So 27th November, 2016 to 3rd December, 2016 were 7 days dedicated to 7 runs in 7 cities letting the voice of the 2 causes be heard across the region.

pinChandigarh

The morning of 27th November 2016 witnessed a zeal and exuberance in the air like never before. Prepping up for the big event, the city breathed in the essence of patriotism. Hundreds of school children, runners, divyangs and people from almost all walks of life participated in the run for a cause. After a quick warm up session, the flag off for the run was done by Brig K S Chandpuri and Lt Gen K J Singh at Chandigarh Club Limited. 140 divyangs became a part of this event, exhibiting their will power to achieve great things in life. The power packed run culminated in a swachhta drive with the participants thoroughly cleaning a designated area , thereby spreading the message of swachh and beautiful environment.

After an overwhelming response from The City Beautiful, the next stop was Ambala. The run started at DAV Public School, Police Line and the Chief Guests of the event were NK Tul Bahadur and Sh Suchha Singh along with two veer naris Smt. Kuldeep Kaur and Smt. Kirpal Kaur. With the feelings of patriotism aroused in them, the participants devoted their time in the Swachhta drive.

Bubbling with energy, Kurukshetra welcomed the SwachhAbility Run with open arms on 29th November, 2016. The chief guests of the event were the veer naris Smt Prerna and Smt Adarsh Bali and the flag off took place at Gurukul School. With 44 divyangs running along with the other participants, and then participating in the drive for cleaning a designated area, the message reached the citizens to look beyond their personal life and contribute in nation building.

On 30th November, Karnal witnessed 64 divyangs running with the other participants in the run which started from The Millennium School. The chief guests of the event were Veer Nari Smt Om Pati and Veer Nari Smt Suman Lata. Pledging for a better society, the people of Karnal used every muscle to disseminate the same message among others as well.

The chief guest of the event in Panipat was Major Kulwant Singh. 42 divyangs became a part of the run which started from The Millennium School. Completely drenched in the love for the nation, Panipat radiated the message of Swachhta and inclusion of divyangs, loud and clear, in the society.

The big event had its climax in Noida on 3rd December, 2016. Smt Meena Nayyar and Lt Gen Mukesh Sabharwal were the chief guests of the run which started at Pathways School. Overwhelmed by the huge response in all the cities and the feeling of accomplishment of spreading the word about two noble causes among the people of rural India was beyond comparison. The feeling of pride outpowered that of fatigue. The National Anthem at the end of the run recharged the participants with the enthusiasm to be ready for the 2nd edition.

Conclusion

To celebrate the remarkable accomplishment and to recognize the good work done for the upliftment of the society, the members of JK Cement, Indian Army and several real life heroes gathered in the conclusion ceremony of Swachhability Run at Army Hospital Research and Referral, New Delhi on 4th December 2016. The Chief Guests of the ceremony were Shri G Mohan Kumar, the Defence Secretary Govt. of India, Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, Adjutant General Indian Army, Lt Gen S D Duhan VSM, Commandant Army Hospital, New Delhi & Mr. Raghavpat Singhania, Special Executive, JK Cement Ltd.

SwachhAbility Awards were given away to acknowledge the efforts of persons with disability and to encourage others with their inspiring stories. It was a way to highlight their efforts in favour of the upliftment of the society. The SwachhAbility Awardees were Dr. Satendra Singh, Ms Abha Khetrapal, Mr Harsh Kumar and Ms Madhavi Latha.

Weaving 7 cities in the thread of SwachhAbility and strengthening it with the solemnity of the two noble causes, SwachhAbility Run had a glorious first edition. It left such an impact, reverberations of which will be felt in its editions to come.
