Kargil Vijay Divas

July 26, 2017

“Owing to my highness, I was invaded and snatched away from my Motherland. But they could never let that happen. Brimming with utmost confidence, my brave soldiers, scaled the highest of heights, in the lowest of temperatures, fought with all their might, ultimately rescuing me and bringing me back to where I belonged. I remember it rained unusually that year in july 1999, because it rained blood which stained me all over.

On 26th July, 1999, I rejoiced in the success of the operation which aimed at my homecoming but deep inside, wailed due to the loss of precious lives. I am the witness to the supreme sacrifice of around 500 Indian soldiers who laid down their lives to save the honour of their motherland. I saw those fearless souls, heard their heart-piercing voices which sang of patriotism and felt the vigour which the love for their country infused in them. I am The Tiger Hill, the ground of the infamous battle of 1999.”

The historical Kargil War is etched in the hearts of all the Indians. Its memory fills us with pride and melancholy at the same time. Reciprocating what our valiant soldiers did for us in the Kargil Battlefield is a task next to impossible. Their sacrifice and commitment towards the nation is transcendent. Even the future generations will always be indebted to the heroism exhibited by them and to the sacrifice of the families who lost their sons in the war.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated to mark the victory of our Indian bravehearts and to commemorate the Kargil martyrs, rekindling in us the feeling of gratitude towards the Indian Army. They have always been committed to perform their duties on field as well as off field.

One such benignant soul is Major DP Singh, who lost his leg in the war and was declared brought dead at the hospital. But the Almighty expected so much more of him. He revived and after almost a decade, came back to the ground; this time declaring a war against the elements contaminating the Indian society. He is working hard is association with J.K. Cement in the initiative named “Swachhability Run” to spread among the masses the message of inclusion of divyangs as equals and promoting the idea of cleaner and greener India, proving to be an idol of inspiration and self-reliance for all.

As a mark of respect and thanksgiving, let us try to walk on the footsteps of our soldiers, imbibing the qualities of humanity, sincere commitment and selfless love for the country, combating all the prevailing societal disabilities, to make the India of our dreams, a reality.
