Real heroes are not hard to find. They are everywhere amongst us, fighting their daily battles and still living their lives with utmost sincerity. They just need to be recognized and their efforts be acknowledged so that they get the place in the society they actually deserve. A road accident changes Nawab Khan’s life, but he did not forget to live. He talks about the obstacles he has faced and what helped him get out of the difficult times.

“Sham ka time tha aur main kisi kaam se highway ki taraf jaa raha tha. Chalte-chalte andhera ho gaya tha aur raasta sunsaan ho gya. Achanak saamne se tez raftaar car ayi aur mujhe takkar maar k chali gyi. Main ghayal ho gaya tha. Khud ko uthane ki koshish ki lekin mera right paer puri tarah se kharab ho gaya tha. Lagatar khoon beh raha tha. Main zor zor se chillane lga ki koi meri aawaz sun kar meri help k liye aye.”

“Tabhi wahi pas k ghar me se madad mili. Mujhe gaadi me bitha kar pas wale hospital le gye. Wahan hospital mein doctor ne mere paer ki halat dekh ke plaster kar diya aur Jaipur refer kar diya. Wahin main papa ki god mein baith kar naa jaane kaise kaise chilla raha tha. Aisa lag rha tha jaise mera paer mujhse alag ho rha ho. Jaipur mein doctors ne mere paer ki halat dekh kar keh diya ki iska paer kharab ho gya hai; isko hatana padega. Lekin papa nahin maane aur doctors ko mera ilaaj karne ke liye kaha. 6 operation karne ke bad bhi koi hulchul nahin thi.”

“Ilaaj chalte-chalte 6 mahine hone k baad bhi doctor ne paer katne k liye keh diya. Unhone kaha ke ab iska kuch nahin ho sakta. Lekin papa phir bhi nahin maane aur mujhe dikhane ke liye Delhi AIIMS le gye. Wahan mujhe 6 mahine ki date mili aur main ghar aa gya. Ghar aane ke baad kisi ne papa ko desi ilaaj ki salah de di. Phir desi ilaaj 1 saal 6 mahine chala, lekin koi bhi improvement na hone ki wajah se infection ka khatra badhne lga. Paer se main bhi thak gya tha. Do saal ho gye the bed par pade-pade. Paer katane ke liye me khud tayyar hua aur Jaipur hospital mein chala gya.”

“Maine pariwaar mein sabhi ko samjhaya ke main ek paer se bhi khush reh lunga. Jab main hospital mein tha, tab sab mujhe sympathy ki nazar se dekhte the. Lekin main ye sochta tha ke paer katne ke baad kaise chalna hai. Jab mujhe operation room se bahar lekar aaye toh sara pariwaar shant ho gya. Main bas papa se milne k liye tadap raha tha. Phir main roz papa ko himmat deta tha. Chaar din baad hi main ek paer pe khada ho gya aur dheere -dheere chalne lga.”

“10 din baad hi, main prosthetic leg bnane ke liye Jaipur chala gya. Main bahut himmat aur saavdhani se exercise karne laga. Uske baad maine kabhi peeche mudhkar hi nahin dekha. Do saal ke baad main dobara chalne lga tha. Ab jo dil mein aa rha tha, Main karta jaa rha tha. Main motivational speech dene lga. Har jagah jane lga. Do baar marathon mein bhi gya hun. Aj main daily 16km ki cycling karta hun aur ek school mein padha rha hun. Main khush hun ke maine himmat nahin haari. Khud ko ghar mein band nahin rakha. Main bahar nikla, sari mushkilon ka hass kar samna kiya, aur aj ek normal zindagi jee rha hun.”

Nawab’s story gives out a clear message that no difficulty can break you, unless you allow it to. If you remain strong, you can fight all odds and live the life, the way you want to. Team SwachhAbility is proud of Nawab for his optimism and confidence. He has proven to the world that disability is a state of mind. It can never stop you from living a normal life.
